Structural metals remain constrained by the strength-ductility (and toughness) trade-off,motivating materials concepts that can extend the occupied regions of the material-property space. This lecture introduces heterostructured and hetero-architectured metallic materials as a design paradigm guided by the principle of"Right Material, Right Place",where intentional spatial heterogeneity enables synergistic mechanical performance through hetero-zone interactions and strain partitioning. Emphasis is placed on process integration routes combining severe plastic deformation(SPD),metal additive manufacturing(AM),hot isostatic pressing(HIP),and ultrasonic nanocrystalline surface modification (UNSM) to create gradient and multi-level heterostructures. Representative AM-enabled approaches-including compositional heterostructuring and defect mitigation via local composition detouring-are discussed together with surface heterostructuring strategies in which hardening/softening effec are treated as controllable design variables rather than processing artifacts. Finally, AM-specific heterogeneous microstructures(melt-pool features,texture,cellular nano- heterostructures,and deformation-induced phase transformation -related metastability) are connected to macroscopic behavior through constitutive descriptions and continuum-based FEM frameworks,outlining directions toward multi-scale, multi- physics predictive design for high-performance structural components.

Hyoung Seop Kim教授是材料科学与力学领域富有影响力的著名国际学者,现任韩国浦项科技大学(POSTECH)材料科学与工程系讲席教授,并兼任日本东北大学AIMR特聘教授,曾任POSTECH副校长。在Web of Science上被引用超3.2万次,H指数为83。专注于块体纳米结构材料,高熵合金的力学行为以及基于晶体塑性理论的材料本构建模,高熵合金金,增材制造,机器学习和塑性成形等领域取得多项突破性进展。目前担任Metals and Materials International期刊主编, Materials Research Letters,MSEA,Intermetallics等多个国际知名期刊的编辑和编委,同时也是韩国科学技术院院士,韩国国家工程院院士和印度科学院外籍院士。在Nature Communications,Materials Today,Progress in Materials Science, Acta Materialia,International Journal of Plasticity,Additive Manufacturing等国际知名期刊发表1000余篇论文和专著。Kin教授将在材料设计,宏观尺度的力学行为建模,学术发展方向的顶层指导以及强大的国际学术网络支持等方面提供重要支撑。
